Teeth that have been discolored or severely stained can prove to be socially embarrassing for many people. If you are in a situation such as this, you might be tempted to try whitening your smile with the tooth whitening products that are commonly sold in stores.

Many of these whitening products use some form of mildly concentrated hydrogen peroxide as their primary whitening agent. While this might help to improve minor dental stains that have recently developed on your teeth, they are often too mild to address significant dental stains. Plus, overusing these products could harm your teeth and gums.

If your teeth suffer from significant dental stains, you should schedule an appointment with one of our skilled dentists, Dr. Bryce Searle and Dr. Bruce Murdock. In many of these cases, they can whiten the appearance of your teeth by performing a dental bleaching treatment.

Occasionally brushing your teeth with whitening toothpaste that has earned the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance might also help remove minor surface stains before they can worsen. Most whitening toothpastes use mild concentrations of hydrogen peroxide as their primary whitening agent.

It would also be beneficial to cut back on dark beverages and limit your use of tobacco products. If you are a frequent tobacco user, you might want to talk to your physician about a cessation program.

If you live in the American Fork, Utah, area, and if you have noticed dental stains developing on your teeth, you should call 801-770-1222 to set up a dental bleaching treatment at Murdock & Searle Family Dentistry.
